Background : Taha Law Firm & Lawyers Without Borders
Taha Law Firm was established in the 1936 by my late father,
when he was a judge under the old monarchy, and he ran it
as a syndicate of lawyers for twenty years.
When I graduated in 1st October 1952 I joined my father’s
office and he spared no effort to appoint me as a judge or as
a minister of foreign affairs or public attorney, all of which
offices I in fact refused. I have never been employed for one
minute in my fifty-five year career other than by my firm. The
Taha Law Firm has given me a deep knowledge of company
law and company registration which I have practiced
successfully. I have drafted company, tax and other laws. My
office now includes the following departments:
- Experts in registration of companies who publish circulars
detailing the formalities of registration;
- Translators, specialising in working with foreign companies.
We have in fact in the region of 200 clients;
- Expert considering new laws and regulations, commenting on
them under my personal supervision, again published and
circulated among our client base so that they are fully aware
of developments in the implementation in Iraqi laws;
- Experts in commercial and construction contracts and in
commercial tender documents, offering reassurance and
security for them, particularly in the oil industry. My office was
the sole lawyer to Elf Octane, the French company, and ro
Petrobras the Brazilian company, and to the seven companies
constituting the nuclear energy industry in Iraq;
- Trademark and associated fields, an area of particular
expertise;
- An expert arbitration department. I myself am an international
arbitrator in Geneva and for the Arab Union;

sent representatives to locations in many countries around
the world.
- I ran the office since 1952 and have been honoured to inherit
the respectful afforded to my late father. Now I have affiliated
offices in Baghdad and Basra and will very shortly be opening
a further office in Arbeel, Kurdistan. I also have association
with offices in Beirut, Cairo and Libya, working closely with Dr
Khalida. She is the deputy Chairman of my organisation
‘Lawyers Without Borders’, which is registered under English

- I have been chosen as one of the expert advisers to the
Pentagon, as a consultant in the degree of minister of justice.
I have drafted many laws which have been translated for the
Pentagon and are one by one being noticed when they were
legislated in Iraq in the term of Paul Bremer. I have slow down
my cooperation with them to see a better way to serve my
beloved country on legislation field.
- I am interested in publishing articles precisely legal articles
and I have a lot of English articles which explain some of the
laws which has been established during the Iraqi occupation
and signed by Paul Bremer. I am busy giving answer to all
legal inquiries about laws and regulations in Iraq.
Moreover, I was chosen as Ambassador For Peace by the
very big organisation called The Interreligious and
International Federation for World Peace in 2005. This
organisation is very active in worldwide and trying to build an
eternal world peace. I was in several conferences from
London to Korea and gave my lectures about how we can
build the peace and shared my experience of 55 years.I am
still be honoured to be a part of it and I will do my best to
make it more successful.
